Boundaries and parent counties
Formed from: Fremont County
Check the parent county for earlier records: Fremont County
Later formed partly from Jefferson County: Butte County
Records stay with the county that created them. If your ancestor lived here before 1913, search the parent county. The Atlas of Historical County Boundaries shows each boundary change.
Research tip
Idaho began statewide registration of births and deaths in 1911. Before 1863 its land was part of Oregon and Washington territories (the east also of Nebraska and Dakota territories), and some early settlers in the southeast recorded events in Cache County, Utah, thinking they lived there.
