Boundaries and parent counties
Formed from: Huntingdon County, Lycoming County, Mifflin County, Northumberland County
Check the parent counties for earlier records: Huntingdon County, Lycoming County, Mifflin County, Northumberland County
Later formed partly from Centre County: Clinton County
Records stay with the county that created them. If your ancestor lived here before 1800, search the parent county. The Atlas of Historical County Boundaries shows each boundary change.
Research tip
Pennsylvania counties didn't issue marriage licenses until the fall of 1885, so earlier marriages are mostly in church records. Lutheran, Reformed, Presbyterian and Quaker registers are often the best source.
